Royal Doulton Dog Plate by Henry Mitchell
Mitchell, Henry T. - Painter. Active 1860-c.1875. Pupil of Speight, specialised in animal and landscape painting. Signed pieces have been recorded that were executed up to 1875. Works by Mitchell were shown at the International Exhibition of 1862 and other major exhibitions. At Vienna in 1873 Mitchell was awarded a Co-operators' Medal. Painted a number of dessert services with dog scenes after Landseer. Later employed at Doulton, 1893-1908. (Atterbury & Batkin 1990, 286)
